A browser block, with an internal route

The Government Offices said the browser interfaces for ChatGPT and Claude would no longer be accessible from its service computers, with the block taking effect on October 26.[1] The change does not remove all staff access to the two services: employees will still be able to use them within Intric.[1] The Government Offices described Intric as a special AI-assistant platform it developed itself, through which some staff would retain access.[2] The distinction is between open browser access from work computers and access through the offices’ own platform.[1][2]

Approved tools and security concerns

The Government Offices directs staff to use approved AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot, and says all employees have access to Microsoft’s AI tool.[1][2] It said it raised Copilot’s security after reviewing the tool.[2] The offices’ press service declined to provide details about the security changes, citing security issues.[2] Separately, the Government Offices said using AI services without an agreement could affect information security.[2] The available information does not specify what security changes were made to Copilot or which services have agreements.[2]

Other Swedish agencies are taking different steps

The Government Offices had already restricted use of DeepSeek.[2] Sweden’s Tax Agency and National Board of Institutional Care had also introduced blocks on AI services.[2] The Swedish Enforcement Authority, by contrast, was preparing the issue for a future decision rather than announcing a block.[2] Those examples show different stages of policy action; they do not establish that all Swedish public agencies have adopted the same restrictions.[2]

An audit raised risks around open services

Earlier in the year, an internal audit at the Swedish Transport Administration found widespread, risky use of about a dozen AI services.[2] The audit cited concerns about sensitive information being entered into open AI services and about how generated responses were handled.[2] That finding comes from the Transport Administration, not the Government Offices, and the evidence does not say it prompted the Government Offices’ decision.[2] Sweden’s Government Offices is the administrative body supporting the prime minister and cabinet.[3]

For professionals, the key operational distinction is that blocking public browser access does not necessarily mean a tool is unavailable through an approved internal route. Teams should check which tools and access paths their own policies permit before using AI services with work information.
