Funding and launch

Mistlabs said it raised $26 million across multiple funding rounds, with Luminous Ventures and Huaqin leading them.[1] Alongside the funding announcement, the company brought Ambi out of beta on Apple devices.[3] TechCrunch described the apps as meeting notetakers that users can leave listening throughout the day, with apps releasing for iPhone, Mac and Apple Watch.[1] SiliconANGLE reported availability on Macs and Apple devices supporting iOS 18.[3] The launch announcement was dated October 12, 2026.[2]

An assistant built around context

Ambi is designed to act proactively rather than wait for a user to ask it to do something.[3] It learns about a user through conversations it hears on an iPhone, Apple Watch or Mac, and Mistlabs says its understanding of how that person works improves over time.[3] The service is based on a user’s calendar, meetings, knowledge base and web data.[1] A task can follow someone as they move between a Mac, phone and watch, and users can start a task on one device and continue it on another.[3][1]

More features are planned

Ambi Routines can assign recurring jobs to several agents that draw on information the system has learned about a user.[3] Mistlabs says the agents fact-check what is said as a discussion unfolds.[3] A further capability, due in the coming months, would apply when two software users meet.[3] Mistlabs is also planning a desktop app that will examine users’ work and save important parts in Ambi’s memory to inform personalized suggestions.[1] The company is planning a hardware device with a screen, speaker, camera and microphones.[1]

Recording and consent questions

Users can turn off ambient data capture at any time, and it is off by default; Mistlabs said it does not store users’ recordings.[1] Mistlabs says data it retains after transcription is encrypted and stored on servers in the United States.[4] Those safeguards do not resolve every question about recording in shared settings: TechCrunch said it was unclear whether Ambi’s apps or device would sufficiently alert third parties that conversations were being recorded.[1] TechCrunch also noted that some meeting-notetaker companies have faced lawsuits over recording conversations and data without consent.[1]

Ambi’s design combines persistent listening, cross-device task handoffs and personalized context, making its recording controls and treatment of other people’s conversations important considerations for workplace use. Teams evaluating it should weigh the stated privacy controls against the reported uncertainty about how third parties are notified.
