A planned release, not a confirmed launch date

Alibaba announced its partnership with Apple on Oct. 31.[1] Apple plans to start testing Qwen-powered features in the latest iOS developer beta on Nov. 4, then roll them out to Chinese users with the official iOS 27.3 release in December.[1] Apple has not given a specific public release date for iOS 27.3.[3] The rollout is planned in phases, so the December release plan does not establish that every user or feature will arrive at once.[2]

What the first China release includes

Apple’s first China release of Apple Intelligence includes live translation, Writing Tools, Visual Intelligence, photo cleanup, Genmoji, and email and notification summaries.[2] The live translation feature is integrated into Messages, FaceTime and Phone, and Apple says it is intended to help people communicate across languages.[2] Writing Tools can rewrite, proofread and summarize text.[2] Visual Intelligence can use the iPhone camera to identify nearby objects and places, while users can also search photos using natural language.[2]

Which devices and features are out

The first China release supports iPhone 16 and later models, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone Air, and iPhone Duo.[2] It does not support iPad or Mac.[2] Apple’s initial China release will also omit the next-generation Siri AI announced at WWDC 2026.[2] For teams planning support or communications around the rollout, those exclusions matter as much as the feature list: the announcement does not describe a release across Apple’s full device range or the full set of Apple Intelligence capabilities already launched overseas.[2]

Users retain a choice over Qwen

Alibaba says users can choose whether to enable the Qwen integration and what information to share.[1] That gives users a decision point as the features become available, rather than making Qwen use automatic for everyone. Apple’s China launch comes more than two years after Apple Intelligence was first unveiled at WWDC in June 2024.[2] The initial feature set is narrower than the capabilities Apple Intelligence has already launched overseas, and the phased plan leaves open how quickly the rollout will expand.[2]

The December plan gives product, support and communications teams a defined window to prepare, but the phased rollout and iPhone-only initial support call for careful scope-setting. The mix of Qwen access and Apple features also makes it useful to distinguish what is powered by Qwen from what is part of the wider Apple Intelligence release.
