Alibaba Cloud Plans First Regions in Turkey, Finland and the Netherlands

Alibaba Cloud plans to launch its first cloud regions in Turkey, Finland and the Netherlands over the next 12 months. [1][2] The Netherlands site is scheduled to open in October, with capacity additions planned in Malaysia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, France and Hong Kong. [2] Alibaba Cloud currently operates 107 availability zones across 31 regions. [2]

At the Apsara Conference, Li Feifei set a target of more than 20 gigawatts of global data-centre capacity by 2032. [2] Gartner ranked Alibaba Cloud fourth globally in infrastructure-as-a-service revenue for 2025, behind Amazon, Microsoft and Google. [2] In Asia-Pacific, Alibaba Cloud held the top position with a 22.5% market share. [2]

Alibaba Cloud’s plan pairs near-term expansion in three countries with a longer-term capacity goal. The Netherlands opening in October makes the timetable concrete, while additions in five existing markets broaden the infrastructure program. For enterprise buyers, the practical question is whether added regional capacity improves deployment options for Alibaba’s chips, infrastructure and models.

The competitive gap remains visible: Gartner placed Alibaba behind Amazon, Microsoft and Google globally, even as Alibaba led Asia-Pacific by market share. What the sources don't address: which services will be available in each new region or how quickly customers will adopt them.
